Welcome to Authorized Nonsense

So here's the thing about starting a blog when you already write books for a living: it feels redundant. Like buying a second microwave because the first one just isn't warming your leftover pizza with enough enthusiasm. But here we are. Welcome to Authorized Nonsense — the only blog on the internet where a professional assassin's creator talks about world-building, creative process, and the occasional existential crisis that comes with writing fantasy novels about a guy who argues about job titles while people are actively trying to kill him.

Why This Exists

Honestly? Because readers kept asking. "Where do you come up with this stuff?" "How does the Tower's floor system work?" "Is Jack based on anyone real?" (No. Absolutely not. My lawyer has advised me to be very clear about that.) The questions were too good — and too frequent — to just answer in Instagram comments between promotional posts and book cover reveals.

So Authorized Nonsense was born. Think of it as the behind-the-curtain tour of the Tower of Jack universe. The stuff that doesn't fit in the books. The lore that got cut. The design decisions that seemed insane at the time and turned out to be exactly right (and the ones that were, in fact, insane).

Every good story has a world bigger than what ends up on the page. This is where the rest of it lives.

What You'll Find Here

The plan — and I use that word loosely, because planning has never been my strongest trait — is to post about once or twice a month. Topics will include deep dives into the Tower's mechanics, character backstories that didn't make the final cut, writing updates (including honest ones about why Book 4 took longer than expected), and the occasional hot take about the GameLit/LitRPG genre that will probably get me in trouble on Reddit.

If you've read the books, this is the bonus content layer. If you haven't read the books yet — first of all, what are you doing here? Second of all, welcome anyway. You'll catch up. Jack's a fast talker but the plot moves faster.

The Rules

There's really only one: I write these posts the same way I write the books. Which means the tone is conversational, the humor is dry, and if something is boring I'm not going to pretend it isn't. Life's too short for filler paragraphs. (The irony of saying that in a blog post is not lost on me.)

Also — and this is important — spoiler warnings will always be clearly marked. I know some of you are still working through Bad Assassins and I respect the journey. I won't ruin the surprises. Mostly.

That's it. That's the inaugural post. No grand thesis, no five-year content strategy, no twelve-part series on "finding my authentic voice as a creator." Just a guy who writes books about a sarcastic assassin trapped in a magical tower, telling you he's going to write some blog posts about it too.

If you want to know when new posts drop, the newsletter is right below this. Subscribe. Don't subscribe. I'm not your boss. But I will be talking about Tournament of Cheaters stuff soon, and you probably want to be in the room for that.

See you on the next floor.
